When steel begins to bloom. USM Modular Furniture stands for clarity, precision and reduction. My illustrations live from line, calm and a certain lightness. At first glance two different languages, at second glance exactly the same attitude.
A floral world for spring and summer
For the spring and summer design of the USM showrooms in Munich and Hamburg, I created a floral world of illustration: pen, paper and a great many flowers. Between the clean lines of the furniture, known to many as USM Haller, the blossoms were meant to look as if they had simply grown in.
From sketch to shop window
What began as small, almost quiet sketches now stretches across entire window fronts and large-format displays. That has a magic all of its own for me. My drawings are usually something you hold in your hand. Here they become larger than I am and part of a space you can walk into. The step from two dimensions into space is still the most exciting part of projects like this.
Illustration as an attitude
When a brand sees illustration not as decoration but as a spatial attitude, something emerges that cannot be exchanged. That was exactly the aim here. Anyone walking past the showrooms may see for the first time how light steel can look.
